computational modeling

At EWI, objective analysis of welding and joining processes is an endeavor that combines our expertise in computational weld mechanics with our knowledge of material behavior during welding and joining.

In the past two decades, EWI has pioneered the application of finite element analysis, multi-physics modeling, computational fluid mechanics, material thermodynamics and kinetic modeling tools as well as neural net modeling to provide engineering solutions for customers in a wide range of industries. EWI engineers and technicans are world renown in the emerging areas of integrated weld modeling. In addition, EWI is extending the expertise and tools to allied processes such as heat treatment and metal forming of advanced materials.

By tapping into our computational modeling capabilities, our Members are better able to select appropriate welding/joining processes and determine process parameters and material combinations for a given application and related performance requirements. This approach helps to reduce the empiricism of welding design and minimize the number of experimental trials conducted before arriving at a final weld/joint design for a given application.

In addition, EWI can leverage its computational modeling tools to perform failure analysis of existing welds and engineer solutions to avoid potential materials joining failures.
